Arthur Bear

August has been an eventful month thus far, for those of you that weren’t aware, I was due to start some maternity leave on the 1st Aug in preparation for our new arrival due on the 22nd Aug. Well, our bundle of joy arrived a little earlier than expected on the 4th and suffice to say we were a little surprised but overjoyed. We would like to welcome to the world Arthur Bear Geoffrey John, who, so far, is an angel. I am still available to answer any queries regarding commissioned design work or product orders so please do stay in contact via email or phone.

Much Love

New Client!

Introducing new client…

I am ecstatic to introduce the iconic Wedgwood (WWRD UK Ltd) as a client. Wedgwood contacted me having discovered my work online and I will be working with the fabulous company on some bespoke design work over the next few months.

As always, I am sworn to secrecy and so the fruits of my labour will be shared in due course but suffice to say I thoroughly enjoyed our productive meeting at the lavish Langham Hotel, London this month and I am completely drawn into a magical world of the English Tea Party by Wedgwood’s beautiful press imagery that reflects both heritage and modern tastes. So much so that I have to share the website with you so you can see for yourself.

Bespoke Wallpaper Workshop

Clifton Nurseries, London, 7th June 2013…

A hidden gem in North West London, the gorgeous Clifton Nurseries provided a beautiful setting for the bespoke wallpaper workshop hosted by Country Homes Magazine and Darling Creative this month and I was delighted to be sharing my skills and techniques as teacher for the day.

We started the day with some fabulous tea in the Garden Room followed by introductions and an intensely creative day producing artwork for wallpaper (not forgetting the tea and cakes and wonderful lunch that was laid on by the venue!).

The aim of the day was to learn how to create a repeat tile – the basis for wallpaper design – and then to layer hand drawn or hand crafted elements into a beautiful piece of artwork to take home or to be transformed and printed as a bespoke wallpaper.

Guests were creative, enthusiastic and a pleasure to share the day with – thank you!

With Love,

Zoe

Winner!

I was over the moon to be announced as a winner of the Beta Fashion Design Competition, Bright Light City for my entry ‘Opaque New York’. The brief was to design a textile design for use on a dress inspired by the title of the project; Bright Light City.

“Entranced by the bright city lights of New York City, this design was inspired by motion, noise and excitement that engulfs you as you wander New York in a dream-like trance. Comprised of photographic layers of lights in different opacities and filters, the design echos the buzz of the city.”

As a winner my design will feature on fashion products on the Beta Fashion website and I’ll receive a prize of £1000.

I can’t wait to see my design come into fruition!

Opaque New York

This design is inspired by our first trip to New York City in 2010 and has been re-worked for a submission to current Beta Fashion project, Bright Light City.

Entranced by the bright lights of New York City. This design was inspired by the motion, noise and excitement that engulfs you as you wander the streets of New York in a dream-like trance. Comprised of photographic layers of lights in different opacities and filters, the design echos the buzz of the city.

I will be submitting designs to a number of projects this year to keep my creative juices flowing, your support via sharing, voting and commenting on submissions is invaluable so thank you.

Please feel free to vote or comment on my submission page.

New Framed Illustrations

This week I have added a few illustrations to the shop. These drawings have been in the sketchbooks for a while now and have yet to be made up into repeat fabric and wallpaper designs.

Geared towards the children’s market, the cute hand sketched animals and conversational birds make lovely artwork for nurseries and kids rooms once coloured and framed.

I particularly like the penguins!

I will add the rest of the sketch book in the coming weeks but these definitely give ideas of affordable ways to decorate those special walls at just £17 per framed print.

Each design is available in 4 different colourways; white, blue, pink and yellow, from the gift section of the online shop: http://www.zoebarkertextiles.com/gifts.html

Much Love,
Zoe

NEW: Bespoke Wallpaper Workshops

guyers-house_2 clifton-nurseries_2

I was approached earlier this year by a lovely company called The Darling Collective who were eager for me to teach a set of 3 exclusive workshops they were hosting for readers of Country Homes & Interiors magazine.

Of course I accepted, and I am excited to be planning some hands on Bespoke Wallpaper Design workshops to be held in Brighton, London and Bristol in June.

These courses are being featured in this month’s edition of Country Homes and Interiors magazine, spaces are limited but are available now. You can book directly, and read more by clicking here.

“Zoe will talk you through how she creates her own wallpapers. You will then make your own design, creating a template piece, which can be framed and hung as a work of art or (at an additional cost) left with Zoe to make into a repeat pattern, which you will be able to print onto usable wallpaper.”

Dates:
Friday 7th June 2013, London Clifton Nurseries
Tuesday 11th June 2013, Brighton, The Grand
Friday 28th June 2013, Bath, Guyers House

I look forward to seeing some of you there, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Much Love
Zoe
